Site History
On Thursday, 10/25/12, Claudia Brown from Biohabitats came and shared the history of Burke Park.. Claudia started with a puzzle, asking why the fish were dying, and explained the geology and water cycles of the Front Range, before moving into the more recent history of Frasier farm and the creation of the stock pond (see Site History slides at right). Students also shared what they knew, wanted to know, and learned from the presentation and week. Some of their ideas we share below:

What I Know
Everybody loves the lake It used to be a farm. There are too many weeds and litter. About 10 years ago a lot of fish died. |
What I Want to Know
How long the lake will be there
How old is the park? When will the park be done? Are we able to clean up the water? |
What I Learned
There was not always a lake here. It once got covered in algae That the fish (koi) in the pond were illegally put there. That in 2003 the pond was green and full of poop. The solar panels in the lake mix the water around. |
